Rachel Hu
Outreach Officer (Taiwan)
Rachel is a 2nd year MPhil student in International Relation at Herford College. Her research project, with the Department of Politics and International Relations, looks at normative frames of Hong Kong’s political development in 2019-2020. Rachel is on the thematic team for events of the Diplomatic Society this year. Her areas of interests in diplomacy include both diplomatic practices in international cooperation and crisis management, especially its cross-cultural nature and implications, and research-informed policy advocacy that impacts those practices. Rachel believes in the positive influences that quality and well-informed diplomacy can bring to a world today that is increasingly longing for greater peace and stability. She hopes to explore more and be part of that positive impact through the Diplomatic Society and beyond. Rachel looks forward to contributing to the organization of a series of quality events that appeal to a diverse range of audiences interested in diplomacy, such as speakers’ events with diplomats and discussion groups/workshops through which participants can experience for themselves the practice of diplomacy. Related to her own academic background and interests, Rachel hopes to put up topical events on the international relations and diplomacy of East Asia.
