Digital Diplomacy: A New Era in Advancing Foreign Policy

  • St Antony's College Oxford (map)

Corneliu Bjola is Associate Professor in Diplomatic Studies at the University of Oxford and Head of the Oxford Digital Diplomacy Research Group. He also serves as a Faculty Fellow at the Center on Public Diplomacy at the University of Southern California and as a Professorial Lecturer at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. His forthcoming co-edited volume (with Ilan Manor) Oxford Handbook of Digital Diplomacy (OUP) provides the state of the art of digital diplomacy in terms of theory, institutions, country cases and future trends. Drawing on the new graduate course (“Diplomacy and Virtual Reality”) he has been teaching at the University of Oxford, Prof. Bjola’s next research project will examine the ramifications of the Metaverse for the conduct of diplomacy, especially on its core diplomatic functions of representation, communication, and negotiation.
